Remember that character from a few days ago? Well, I decided to sculpt him up and make an attempt at doing a 2D illustration using a 3D medium. I plan on using this as a character image for a DnD campaign that my friend is hosting, and the game is a murder mystery type. This was very fun to do, even if I don't think I quite nailed the stylized look of the sculpt. His eyes came out strange, but since this was just an experiment, I didn't want to spend too much time on him. I really love the way this turned out, though, so expect to see more like this one in the future.

Not much to say about these ones. They're just personal work I did for a possible side project. The frame took about two hours, and is supposed to be a frame surrounding an illustrated character portrait for a game, while the young man at the bottom is simply a rough character study. For the drawing, I only spent about an hour, and I tried to make him look fairly anime-ish. I know I've been trying to veer away from anime for a while, but for the universe he belongs in, the stylized look suits him. I think they both came out to be pretty much exactly what I was aiming for, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. Now I need to knuckle down and get back to schoolwork, but these were fun in the in between!
I found this little character concept by Meg Park on Tumblr and decided to use it as reference for a some stylized sculpting practice. I've never done anything quite like this before, and while I think I could use a lot of improvement, I learned a lot in this sculpt. The face was the hardest part, mostly because of her adorably strange proportions. This sculpt sketch was a about an hour and a half worth of work. Next time I think I'll try just a stylized head. Original Sketch by Meg ParkSculptSaw The Book of Life (again) with a few friends of mine to celebrate the end of the month, and I loved it even more the second time around. The characters are very captivating and unique, but Manolo is my favorite, and so I decided to doodle up a piece of fanart for him in my style to relax. It was a few hours worth of work, but so worth it, I think! I could do more with it, but I have concepting for finals to do, so it'll stay as is. Hope you guys like it!
Finally finished season 2 of The Legend of Korra, and while I have mixed feelings about it as a whole, I still love the show and the characters. Going to start season 3 soon before my next class starts! I felt inspired by it as I usually do, though, so here's a quick doodle of my character Neil as a waterbender. I'm considering doing the Inktober challenge come October, since it's my favorite month. If so, I'll post my daily works here, of course.
I realized that I forgot to submit this! I made some changes to the timing and the end of it. I'm still not entirely pleased with it, but it works for now. I'll continue to refine it if I have time, but otherwise it was just for fun and I enjoyed it. After finishing up my work in LVL (I'll get the video up soon!) I decided to work on a separate project for myself. This one is a church that I'm basing off a handful of different references, but mostly a St Giles church I found a nice HDR image of on Deviantart. I've finished my blockin and have begun the second pass on the models. It looks a little odd right now because of the lack of textures, but so far so good! I had trouble at first since I'm not used to this specific of hard-surface modeling, but it's coming along. Learning a lot already. These shots were taken at various stages of completion~ More soon!
Very rough, obviously, but here's a little animation test for D I'm working on for those who wanted to see the progress so far. Well, while I was waiting for my lighting to build in UDK for our level, I decided to doodle to pass the time. I've been watching a lot of Gravity Falls recently so I thought I'd try my hand at doodling in a similar style, and so far I've had an absolute blast with it. These are characters from a story a friend of mine (Rachel Ray; AKA: Coco) are writing out in our spare time.
Some of the poses are a little wonky and repetitive, but I really just wanted to focus on personality and proportion for these laid-back sketches. I think they came out really nice~ The two characters at the bottom (dreds and the warrior) are random and not related to the story. Let me know what you guys think! This is a piece I've been working on separately from my LVL class. Initially I did it as a test for one of our major props in the level, which we're vaguely calling The Tree of Life, which is the tree that these bird people gather around and worship. We ended up scrapping this one for the level, since we wanted an equal representation of all the members in the group, but I liked this concept enough that I decided to continue working on it on my own between homework assignments.
