Remember that character from a few days ago? Well, I decided to sculpt him up and make an attempt at doing a 2D illustration using a 3D medium. I plan on using this as a character image for a DnD campaign that my friend is hosting, and the game is a murder mystery type. This was very fun to do, even if I don't think I quite nailed the stylized look of the sculpt. His eyes came out strange, but since this was just an experiment, I didn't want to spend too much time on him. I really love the way this turned out, though, so expect to see more like this one in the future.
Not much to say about these ones. They're just personal work I did for a possible side project. The frame took about two hours, and is supposed to be a frame surrounding an illustrated character portrait for a game, while the young man at the bottom is simply a rough character study. For the drawing, I only spent about an hour, and I tried to make him look fairly anime-ish. I know I've been trying to veer away from anime for a while, but for the universe he belongs in, the stylized look suits him. I think they both came out to be pretty much exactly what I was aiming for, so I'm pretty pleased with myself. Now I need to knuckle down and get back to schoolwork, but these were fun in the in between!
This design hasn't been approved yet, but I figured I'd submit him up here anyway. If he's rejected I'll have to do another one, but for now, here he is. This is Emmett, my armored angel, heavily inspired by these gorgeous theater costumes I found online. I changed some things about it, but I loved the color scheme and the shapes produced in the fabric and the slopes of the armor. I've always loved this set and have wanted to model it forever, so now I might get the chance. This time I'm going to post each part separately instead of all at once so that you all can actually see the concept design for what it is. ConceptReferencesMy first approved character for GTE! I'll be working on her in the future months and using her for all of my discipline projects. She looks awfully sweet here, so I plan on doing a few more concept pieces to show her darker side, but the idea behind this druid flower maiden is that she belongs to a cult of siren-worshippers that lead stray adventurers to their keep for sacrifice. One of her props will be a bone knife and she will have two variants when I find the time; her gentle, approachable self, and the dark witch she actually is.
For speed reasons, her concept art is just a photo-manipulation that I painted over, as you can see from the references to the right. Started Advanced Game Characters today, whoo! So far so good. This is just the blockout stage, but I think he's coming along nicely so far. This is Basael, or "Bass" for short, and some of you might recognize him from my gallery uploads. I'll keep posting more updates as I go along, but not much to say for this guy so far. We were given a base mesh to work off of, just a simple zsphere creation, but I had to mod mine quite a bit to make him fit my reference. There's lots of little details in his design that'll come later, but for now we're just blocking out the big shapes. The collars were tricky, but worth it, I think! We'll see how I feel when it's all done, though, haha. Anyway, I also put up my reference sheet for those curious. Wish me luck and happy October!
Finally finished season 2 of The Legend of Korra, and while I have mixed feelings about it as a whole, I still love the show and the characters. Going to start season 3 soon before my next class starts! I felt inspired by it as I usually do, though, so here's a quick doodle of my character Neil as a waterbender. I'm considering doing the Inktober challenge come October, since it's my favorite month. If so, I'll post my daily works here, of course.
Well, while I was waiting for my lighting to build in UDK for our level, I decided to doodle to pass the time. I've been watching a lot of Gravity Falls recently so I thought I'd try my hand at doodling in a similar style, and so far I've had an absolute blast with it. These are characters from a story a friend of mine (Rachel Ray; AKA: Coco) are writing out in our spare time.
Some of the poses are a little wonky and repetitive, but I really just wanted to focus on personality and proportion for these laid-back sketches. I think they came out really nice~ The two characters at the bottom (dreds and the warrior) are random and not related to the story. Let me know what you guys think! |
