This design hasn't been approved yet, but I figured I'd submit him up here anyway. If he's rejected I'll have to do another one, but for now, here he is. This is Emmett, my armored angel, heavily inspired by these gorgeous theater costumes I found online. I changed some things about it, but I loved the color scheme and the shapes produced in the fabric and the slopes of the armor. I've always loved this set and have wanted to model it forever, so now I might get the chance. This time I'm going to post each part separately instead of all at once so that you all can actually see the concept design for what it is.
My first approved character for GTE! I'll be working on her in the future months and using her for all of my discipline projects. She looks awfully sweet here, so I plan on doing a few more concept pieces to show her darker side, but the idea behind this druid flower maiden is that she belongs to a cult of siren-worshippers that lead stray adventurers to their keep for sacrifice. One of her props will be a bone knife and she will have two variants when I find the time; her gentle, approachable self, and the dark witch she actually is.
For speed reasons, her concept art is just a photo-manipulation that I painted over, as you can see from the references to the right. Saw The Book of Life (again) with a few friends of mine to celebrate the end of the month, and I loved it even more the second time around. The characters are very captivating and unique, but Manolo is my favorite, and so I decided to doodle up a piece of fanart for him in my style to relax. It was a few hours worth of work, but so worth it, I think! I could do more with it, but I have concepting for finals to do, so it'll stay as is. Hope you guys like it!
Sorry I haven't been posting lately, guys! Class has kept me very busy this last week or so, but for good reason! My final character is due tomorrow, and there's still so much I want to do with him, but he's almost done for the turn in. I was given a little wiggle room in polycount, but he's under 15k minus the hair cards, so all in all, not too bad. Today I've been focusing on textures. I've only really had a day to work on them, so these are sort of quick and dirty ones, but I think they came out pretty nice. I might make adjustments depending on critiques tonight, and I have a few more pieces I'm going to attempt, so wish me luck!
I would have liked to work on this more, but with all of the retopoing and the uving deadlines being next Tuesday, I need to move on or face incompletion. I may revisit him later, but for now, this is as good as it's going to be. I think he came out pretty good for my first sculpt, though! I'm going to do his hair with alpha cards, but the sculpt is there for the parts where there might be gaps.
Finished for now on Basael's entire outfit. All I have to do for the next turn in is finish is forearms and I'm good to start on the head. I think some of the folds on his pants and chaps need more work, but for now, I'm going to move on and come back to them later. There's quite a bit of stuff I have to retopo, so I'm anxious and eager to get started on that so that I don't get behind in later days. Here's some snapshots of what I have so far.
More progress on Basael! Not much to say on it. I'm calling the clothing on the torso done for now until critique day on Tuesday. I did a lot of work on this, but there's still a lot to do with the pants, gloves, and boots. More soon as usual! |
